Highpoint Health – Winchester/Sewanee with Ascension Saint Thomas Welcomes Fifth Class of Lincoln Memorial University Medical Students
July 31, 2025

Highpoint Health - Winchester/Sewanee with Ascension Saint Thomas welcomed the fifth class of Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) students in July to begin clinical rotations across both hospital campuses and clinic.
As a designated core rotation site for LMU-DCOM, Highpoint Health - Winchester/Sewanee provides third- and fourth-year medical students with hands-on experience in both hospital and outpatient settings. Students rotate through multiple specialties - including internal medicine, general surgery, family medicine, orthopedics, and more - under the supervision of physicians.
This partnership supports LMU-DCOM’s broader mission to improve access to care in underserved and rural communities. By integrating medical students into the clinical environment, the program contributes to workforce development and helps strengthen the pipeline of future healthcare professionals.
Program oversight is led by Dr. Timothy Crater, internal medicine physician and program medical director, who works in collaboration with medical staff and Physician Services to ensure a coordinated and meaningful educational experience. The continued presence of medical students on-site contributes to clinical learning opportunities and reinforces the hospital’s role in advancing medical education in the region.
