Highpoint Health – Riverview Awarded Acute Stroke Ready Hospital Certification

CARTHAGE, TN – Highpoint Health – Riverview with Ascension Saint Thomas has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Acute Stroke Ready Hospital Certification. This prestigious certification signifies the hospital’s commitment to providing a higher standard of care for stroke patients in Smith County and the surrounding communities.

Highpoint Health – Riverview underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on July 10, 2025. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with certification standards, including program management and the delivery of clinical care. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews to ensure the hospital met or exceeded standards for quality and safety.

“Acute Stroke Ready Hospital Certification recognizes healthcare organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “We commend Highpoint Health – Riverview for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and to strengthen its clinical program to drive safer, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals served.”

Highpoint Health – Riverview’s designation highlights its commitment to a robust, systematic approach to stroke care. This includes providing specialized stroke education for all staff and providers, developing and implementing treatment protocols to prevent and reduce delays in care, and ensuring a dedicated 24/7 stroke team is always available. These measures are designed to deliver rapid, effective treatment from the moment a stroke patient arrives at the hospital.
