Highpoint Health to Expand Services at Sumner Station Campus

The state-approved project will bring inpatient care, advanced cardiac services, surgery and a pediatric unit to Sumner County.

Gallatin, Tenn. (June 24, 2026) — Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas has received approval from the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission to move forward with a significant expansion to its Summer Station campus, marking a major investment in the future of healthcare delivery across Sumner County.

The $59.3 million project will bring a broader range of healthcare services closer to home for residents in one of Middle Tennessee’s fastest growing regions. The expansion includes adding inpatient services, advanced cardiac care, surgical capabilities and an inpatient pediatric unit.

“This approval represents an important milestone not only for our organization, but for the families who live in and around Sumner County,” said Rod Harkleroad, RN, MMHC, market president of Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas. “As the community's healthcare needs evolve, we are committed to ensuring patients have access to the care they need close to home. Adding these additional services will enable us to provide timely, high-quality care while helping patients remain connected to their support systems during treatment and recovery.”

The approved expansion includes a range of new services and capabilities at the Sumner Station campus, including:

  • An eight-bed inpatient pediatric unit
  • Sixteen inpatient medical and telemetry beds
  • A four-bed intensive care unit
  • A Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Lab
  • Two operating rooms and supporting surgical services
  • An endoscopy suite
  • Expanded pharmacy, laboratory, dietary services, Materials Management (Supply Chain) and Environmental Services (EVS)

These additions will enable the Sumner Station campus to care for a wider range of medical conditions and emergencies while reducing the need for patients to travel outside the community for treatment. It will also strengthen the region’s local healthcare infrastructure by improving emergency response capabilities and creating additional capacity to serve future generations of patients.

Construction planning is now underway, with development expected to generate new employment opportunities and support continued growth across the Highpoint Health system.

"As this community continues to grow, we are building the infrastructure, clinical capabilities and capacity needed to meet the healthcare challenges of tomorrow,” said Harkleroad. "We're excited to get this expansion underway and take the next step in expanding access to care for the patients and families who rely on us every day."
