By Keeping Staffs’ Clinical Skills Sharp, Training Program at Highpoint Health – Sumner Earns National Spotlight from the American Heart Association
April 02, 2026
GALLATIN, TN – April 2, 2026 – Highpoint Health – Sumner has been selected as one of the inaugural recipients of the American Heart Association (AHA) All-Star Recognition. This prestigious distinction places the hospital’s training center among an elite group of facilities nationally recognized for excellence in lifesaving education and community preparedness.
The All-Star designation is awarded to training centers for staff that consistently exceed rigorous program criteria, including high-quality CPR instruction, strict adherence to Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) guidelines, and superior operational performance. Highpoint Health – Sumner was specifically lauded for its exceptional eCard management, meticulous record-keeping, adherence to training quality measures, maintaining top-tier program compliance, and impactful community training initiatives.
“This recognition symbolizes the real-world impact our team makes every day,” said James Barnett, Director of Education at Highpoint Health – Sumner. “By maintaining these high standards, we aren't just meeting requirements; we are empowering our staff and our neighbors with the confidence and skills necessary to save lives during cardiac emergencies.”
Central to the hospital’s commitment to cardiac care is its involvement with RQI (Resuscitation Quality Improvement). A national program developed in collaboration with the AHA, RQI shifts the standard of healthcare provider re-assessment from a traditional two-year cycle to a more frequent, three-month interval. This "low-dose, high-frequency" model ensures that clinical skills remain sharp, directly improving the likelihood of survival for patients experiencing cardiac arrest.
As an All-Star Training Center, Highpoint Health – Sumner will now display the official All-Star badge, signaling to the Gallatin community and surrounding regions that the facility sets the national benchmark for resuscitation training and safety.
