Highpoint Health – Sumner with Ascension Saint Thomas is working to improve access to care by adding inpatient treatment beds, a critical care unit, an endoscopy suite and services such as a lab, pharmacy and dietary services to its existing medical campus at Big Station Camp Boulevard in Gallatin.
Highpoint Health – Sumner Station already serves this growing community with a freestanding ER, imaging and cancer services, and this proposed project would evolve the complex into a satellite acute care hospital.
Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas operates Sumner Station, a building which houses a freestanding emergency room (Highpoint Health – Sumner Station ER), outpatient imaging services and the Carpenter Cancer Center, an outpatient cancer treatment center, as well as several clinics. The Sumner Station ER opened in 2017.
This proposed project will not replace those services. Rather, the project will add to the services at this location. We propose to add 12 inpatient beds and a 4-bed critical care unit to this site of care. Additionally, we will add an endoscopy suite and other ancillary services typically found in a hospital, such as dietary, lab and a pharmacy.
Middle Tennessee, Sumner County, and especially the area around Highpoint Health – Sumner Station with Ascension Saint Thomas is growing rapidly. The area has already seen new subdivisions, new businesses, and new schools. The City of Gallatin has grown 44.7% in the last ten years, and we anticipate continued growth of the counties surrounding Nashville. To keep pace with this organic growth, we must offer inpatient services so patients who choose us can receive comprehensive care close to home.
We anticipate 6 months for design and permitting and another 9 months to a year for construction. The hospital additions may open in late 2026 or early 2027.
We anticipate adding new clinical positions at this site. In addition, having another acute care facility in Sumner County may help recruit new providers to this area. Sumner County and the City of Gallatin will see an increase in property taxes and revenue generated from this project.
We are working with various governmental agencies on a well-designed traffic plan for the area. Improvements and expansions to the bypass are already part of the state’s regional transportation plan. We also have plans to update our parking lot after substantial construction is completed.
