Sumner Wound Care, an outpatient department of Sumner Regional Medical Center, was recently awarded as a Center of Distinction by Healogics®, a leading expert in wound center management, for the fifth year in a row. By receiving this award, Sumner Wound Care has shown to have a wound adjusted comprehensive healing rate greater than 75% and a patient satisfaction rate greater than 92% in the last 12 months. In other words, Sumner Wound Care is preserving people’s mobility and improving the quality of life of residents facing a wide range of healthcare concerns.
“Getting recognized for the fifth year in a row as a Wound Care Center of Distinction shows the community the amount of care and dedication to wound care we have here,” says Chistopher Graham Frazier, DPM, a podiatrist at Sumner Wound Care. “Limb preservation is an important and vital part of keeping people, especially the aging community, well through mobility and movement.”
The wound care experts like Dr. Frazier strive to bring together people, processes, and technology to drive world-class wound care. He says the center uses three state-of-the-art hyperbaric chambers that aid in providing hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This is a fast alternative to wound healing where higher air pressure causes more oxygen to fill the lungs, aiding in faster tissue growth and infection defense.
Proper wound care is vital for individuals with circulatory issues, which often manifest themselves on the feet as non-healing wounds. Dr. Frazier practices at HighPoint Foot and Ankle (formerly known as Frazier Foot and Ankle) and works hand and hand with Sumner Wound Care to refer patients who could benefit from treatment for circulation problems and diabetes. He has years of experience in the Gallatin and Sumner County areas helping patients heal.
He says the incidence of chronic wounds is rising due to our aging population and increasing rates of disease. People living with chronic wounds often have multiple medical issues that can make healing their wounds extremely challenging. For example, a person living with diabetes may also have cardiac disease, peripheral vascular disease and kidney disease that could all cause a delay in healing. A non- healing wound could lead to severe complications such as infection which could ultimately result in an amputation or even loss of life.
