Sumner Sleep Center Awarded National Accreditation
August 15, 2019

The Sumner Sleep Center is pleased to announce its accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). This accreditation is evidence of the quality assurance measures at Sumner Sleep Center that are required to receive AASM accreditation.
According to the National Center on Sleep Disorder Research, approximately 40 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders including sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and restless leg syndrome. A sleep disorder can reduce your daytime productivity and increase your risk of accidents and illness. If someone is having difficulty sleeping, he or she may need to consider asking their primary health care provider about having a sleep study.
“We have an entry-level sleep questionnaire that can help determine if a sleep study is a recommended course of action,” said Betsy Pitt, RPSGT, a polysomnographic technologist at Sumner Sleep Center. “The questionnaire asks about symptoms such as snoring, high blood pressure, insomnia, legs that won’t stop moving, confusion and memory loss.”
A sleep study is a simple process that involves a patient spending the evening in a private bedroom at the Sumner Sleep Center, with equipment used to monitor your brain waves, oxygen level in your blood, heart rate, breathing and eye movement during sleep. The test records your sleep patterns and helps determine if you may have a sleep disorder. The Sumner Sleep Center can help diagnose and treat all types of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome and parasomnias.
“A lot of people overlook the Sleep Center, but it’s a huge part of a person’s health,” said Pitt. “It’s very rewarding when you have someone to come in here during treatment and they actually sleep through the night.”
