Because of the remarkable need for wound care treatment, Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas provides wound care on an inpatient and outpatient basis from a team of board-certified wound care specialists.
We offer high-quality, evidence-based wound care at two locations: Highpoint Health Wound Care – Riverview with Ascension Saint Thomas, and Highpoint Health Wound Care – Sumner with Ascension Saint Thomas. Our goal is to provide the support and care you need in the comfort of your hometown, utilizing advanced wound care therapies to help you recover as fully as possible.

What to Expect
Your wound care journey begins with treatment and evaluation here at our Riverview or Sumner practices. Each patient’s care is overseen by a board-certified wound care specialist. During evaluation, we will:
- Clean and irrigate the wound
- Remove dead tissue
- Determine the type of dressing to use
- Educate the patient on caring for the dressing
- Apply compression, if needed
- Set a schedule for continued care, if needed
Following evaluation, we will continue your treatment as appropriate in an inpatient or outpatient setting. Our specialists work closely with you to find a solution that meets your personal and medical needs.
Conditions Treated
If a wound or sore fails to heal on its own, patients should seek medical help. The following are examples of wounds that might necessitate wound care:
- Acute and chronic wounds
- Autoimmune-related ulcers
- Burns
- Device-related injuries
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Malignant wounds resulting from cancer
- Moisture-associated skin damage

A wound that does not heal for 30 days or more is considered a chronic wound. - Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Oxygen is an essential ingredient in wound healing. By supplying your body with extra oxygen, you enhance your ability to rebuild tissue and fight infections. During hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you will sit in a special chamber that is pressurized with high oxygen levels, allowing your lungs to absorb more oxygen than normal. The treatment lasts approximately two hours, and most patients require several visits to aid in the healing of their wound.
Indicators for hyperbaric oxygen therapy may include:
- Diabetic ulcers of the lower extremities
- Soft tissue radionecrosis and osteonecrosis
- Chronic refractory osteomyelitis
- Crush injury
- Acute traumatic peripheral ischemia
- Progressive necrotizing infection/fasciitis
- Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency
