Sumner Wound Care Receives Center of Distinction Award

Sumner Wound Care, Sumner Regional Medical Center’s dedicated wound healing clinic, recently received a “Center of Distinction” award from Diversified Clinical Services for the center’s outstanding performance during 2009.

Jim Henry, founder of Diversified Clinical Services (the company SRMC contracts with to provide wound care services), traveled from the company’s Jacksonville, Fla., headquarters on September 21 to present the award to the Sumner Wound Care staff.

Henry presented the award to the wound clinic in recognition of its high patient satisfaction rates, exceptional healing results, and outstanding clinical outcomes during 2009.  The staff exceeded Diversified Clinical Services’ (DCS) benchmarks in a number of measurable areas, including:

  • Percentage of Wounds Healed – SRMC healed 9.5 percent more wounds than the DCS benchmark.
  • Median Days to Heal – Sumner Wound Care healed wounds 22.4 days faster than the DCS benchmark.
  • Patient Satisfaction – Sumner Wound Care’s patient satisfaction rates were 4.3 percent higher than DCS’s benchmark.

“It is clear that our collaborative relationship with Diversified Clinical Services to provide high quality wound care services at SRMC is a success,” said Mary Jo Lewis, HighPoint Health System CEO.  “Sumner Wound Care’s recognition as a ‘Center of Distinction’ is an indication of the level of expertise, commitment and care provided by the medical and clinical staff of the center.”

She added, “I’d also like to congratulate Sumner Wound Care Medical Director Dr. Paige Reichert, Drs. Graham Frazier, Scott Faulkner, and Brandon Mewbourne, and the dedicated, hardworking staff team who worked together to provide the outstanding care that resulted in Sumner Wound Care receiving this recognition.”

Sumner Wound Care partners with DCS to ensure quality in providing specialized treatments to patients who are suffering from chronic and non-healing wounds—a serious disorder that can lead to amputation of limbs and dramatically impaired quality of life.  Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins, and immobility, non-healing wounds occur most frequently in the elderly and in people with diabetes and other diseases—populations that are sharply rising as the nation ages and chronic diseases increase.

“We’re honored to receive this award,” said Tosha Smart, program director of Sumner Wound Care.   “It’s a privilege to be part of a great collaborative effort between Sumner Regional Medical Center and Diversified Clinical Services.  Together, we are able to heal patients in our community, getting them get back to living happy, healthy lives.”
