Decorated U.S. Navy, White House Physician Chooses Livingston

Livingston Regional Hospital (LRH) CEO Joanne Fenton has announced that recently retired U.S. Naval Captain Mark Pressley, D.O., has joined the hospital’s medical staff as the Facility Medical Director for the hospital’s Emergency Department.

A native of Hixson, Tennessee, Dr. Pressley joins Livingston Regional Hospital following a highly accomplished career as a physician for the United States Navy, which included an appointment in 2009 as a White House Physician providing executive health protection in direct support of the President of the United States and providing direct care for his senior executive staff.

“Physician leadership in a hospital is extremely important, especially in the Emergency Department, which is our ‘front door’ to the community,” said Fenton.  “Dr. Pressley understands the value of being able to build teams, work in a team and achieve results.  He is proven in this area and we are grateful that he has chosen Livingston Regional Hospital for this next phase in his medical career.  We believe this says a lot about our organization and the positive direction in which we are going.”

Dr. Pressley received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Mo. He completed both an internship and residency in family medicine at Naval Hospital, Pensacola, Fla. He also completed a Flight Surgeon course at Naval Operational Medicine Institute in Pensacola.

Dr. Pressley earned a Master of Public Health degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Mo., while stationed in London, England, and also completed training in Medical Acupuncture, which he integrates into his practice. He is board certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

“We are honored that Dr. Pressley has chosen to make Livingston his new home and to practice medicine with us at Livingston Regional Hospital,” said Larry Mason, MD, family practice physician and chairman of the Livingston Regional Hospital Board of Directors.  “Dr. Pressley is a skilled physician and an excellent addition to the growing medical staff at Livingston Regional.  We welcome him and look forward to working with him.”

Dr. Pressley’s professional memberships include the American Academy of Family Physicians (Fellow), American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American College of Physician Executives, American Osteopathic Association, Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, Christian Medical Society, Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association, Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians and the National Association for Search and Rescue.

His personal military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two Gold stars, the Air Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Air Force Reserve Meritorious Service Medal.

In addition to serving as the Facility Medical Director for the Emergency Department at LRH, Dr. Pressley currently serves as chief executive officer and chief medical officer for AbbKat Medical 247, Chattanooga, Tenn., and as operational medical director for Commonwealth Criminal Justice Academy Medical Programs, Fredericksburg, Va.
